The Greatest Miracle in the Book of Jonah

I preached tonight from Jonah 3:1-10. I believe the greatest miracle in the book of Jonah was the great revival of that wicked city.

In chapter 3 you see:
1. Sovereignty and Responsibility
2. The Great Miracle of Salvation
3. The Results of Salvation
4. The Penitent Preacher
5. The Repenting Preacher
6. God Repented (anthropopathism – the ascription of human feelings and emotions to describe God)

The book of Jonah is full of God’s power and mercy. When you think of Jonah, most likely, the first thing you think about is the miracle of Jonah being swallowed by the fish and preserved and spat out again on the shore. One of the great Bible narratives of the Old Testament.

The greatest miracle in the book of Jonah is not, in my opinion, the fish, but what happens after. I believe the greatest miracle in the book of Jonah is the great revival meeting in Nineveh. Salvation is of the Lord. It is both solely by God’s Grace and power; yet man is responsible to believe and repent in what he will not believe in, or cannot repent to. So anytime one is saved, it is a miracle of Divine mercy and grace.
