Most Christians would affirm
this and hold to the sufficiency of scripture. But there seems to be an exception when it comes to the
church and how the church is supposed to operate. Like everything else concerning the Word of
God, it does not matter what we think is right and wrong, but what God say’s is
right and wrong. The church is a divine
institution, with a divine head, who gave her a mission and book of faith and practice. We are at no more liberty to move an inch
with the church than we are with any other portion of scripture.
Abraham Lincoln once said “How many legs does a dog have, if you call his tail a leg? The answer is four, because calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg.” It doesn’t matter what we think is right, but what IS right, and we know what is right and wrong by the Word of God. When it comes to the church, Christians sometimes become like the world and say that a “tail is a leg.”
